Modern
Silverlake, CA
This very clean and Modern residential property is built on a hillside in Los Angeles, overlooking a reservoir below, and was a fun and rigorous project. The constraints of building on an extremely sloped property in Southern California are quite tight. This, couples with the soil being made of clay and sand made this design a challenge. The Building Code dictates a height limit so the design had to start on the street level and climb down the side of the hill. The angled balconies reflect the angled slope of the lot, and the foundational concrete pile-ons needed to penetrate up to 60 feet into the side of the hill.
