Iconic Spanish Mediterranean
Venice Historic Canals, CA
This iconic Venice canal residence is the first house Lauri Matisse designed. In the 1980s, a developer approached Lauri wanting her to design his own home. At this time, there were only tiny, and mostly run-down, beach cottages on the Venice Canals. Lauri delivered a very special design with this luxurious Spanish Mediterranean canal house, designed symmetrically with a central stairwell so the whole house is filled with light. The design showcases graceful stucco façades, a red‐tile roof, arched loggias that open to the water, wrought-iron balconies, rich wood interiors, and expansive windows that frame the tranquil canal views. This iconic Spanish Mediterranean canal design has since been recreated many times across Southern California.
